Chip Tuning
Chip tuning an engine is becoming a lot more popular with a lot of car drivers. This process involves fine-tuning or replacing a computer chip (known as the EPROM - Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory) that is lodged in the central control system of a vehicle in order to improve performance. This chip is programmed by car manufacturers to control certain aspects of the car's performance.
Chips here can be replaced or they can simply be tuned by updating the software that they run on. People undertake this process for various reasons. Some, for example, will be looking to increase the power of their car, some will be looking to implement better emissions and some will want to improve their fuel usage.
Some drivers will do their own chip tuning although this isn't generally recommended if you don't know what you are doing. The chips in cars are designed by manufacturers to suit the car itself and making changes here could actually decrease performance levels and even damage the engine if you make the wrong kinds of changes. Other people will use specialists who are trained in tuning chips in this way. This way they can get the modifications they want without any of the associated problems or issues.
